Founder of Antiques on Creek, Leslie Ibbotson has put her pride and passion into creating this charming antiques boutique in the heart of Virgil, the hometown she was born and raised in.
It was the inspiration from her father, Svend Mikkelsen, a master Danish carpenter, and her mother, Marjorie, a quilter and artist at heart, that drove Leslie to become so passionate for antiques.
Growing up, Leslie spent Saturday mornings with her father going to the local dump where she and her siblings were allowed to choose something to recycle. She found a lot of satisfaction working alongside her father recreating and restoring furniture and collectibles. Her very first antique that she reupholstered and sold was a Bergère Chair which she discovered at a local yard sale. Her mother shared her love for fabrics and taught her how to sew. It was from that point on that Leslie had her heart set on the world of antiquing and reupholstering.
Inevitably this launched her career as an antiques dealer and her own business selling a variety of collectibles and antiques through multiple venues. Featuring a variety of items including, furniture, home decor, vintage fabrics, dishes, glassware, jewelry and more. She has a keen eye for detecting marvelous treasures and forgotten objects and repairs, restores or reinvents collectible pieces.
Her desire to return to her roots in Virgil and open an antiques shop has finally happened. Here she shares her love of all things old and offers a place for locals and tourists to gather and share in their love of history, and antiques.
R&T's Vintage Finds was established in 2001 by Russell & Tanya Waldick, one year prior to their marriage. Tanya's Uncle Bob, an antique dealer, presented the pair with an early wedding present – enough stock to fill their first ever booth. Nineteen years later, you can still find them each Sunday at their original location, Circle M in Flamborough.
The pair's passion for antiquing was inspired by family. Russell was raised surrounded by antiques that were treasured by his mother, and Tanya's love for all things vintage started when she inherited her grandmother's costume jewelry collection. Together, Russell & Tanya are full time antique dealers who maintain spaces at multiple locations in Ontario. Their specialties include antique china, glass, art, sterling silver, and costume & estate jewelry.
They have participated in antique shows throughout Ontario including Paris, St. George, Milton, Grimsby, Woodstock, Flamborough, Toronto and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Their wares have been featured in the 'Canadian Antique & Vintage Magazine'.
The pair are grateful. It's a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together.
Betty Ann Lepp was born and raised on a grape farm located in Virgil. It was owned and operated by her parents, Dave and Tina Neudorf, who moved to the farm in 1946. Betty Ann spent her childhood amongst 8 siblings. She was one of four sisters, and four brothers. Needless to say, her parents never required to hire staff for help! The farm was truly a family business.
Growing up, Betty Ann discovered her calling as she had a growing interest in medicine and caregiving. She studied and graduated from the Mack School of Nursing in 1970 and began her career as a nurse. She spent 45 years in this field of work and absolutely loved every moment of it.
On the side, Betty Ann’s ultimate hobby is decorating. She especially enjoys including antique and vintage pieces, as well as fine china and linens in her décor. Over the years, she amassed a fair number of articles and decided to join the business of antiquing.
She then began her second career at Lakeshore Antiques in 2015 and has greatly enjoyed her time buying, selling, and trading a variety of items. It was at no hesitation that she accepted Leslie’s offer to join her at Antiques on Creek in her hometown of Virgil. How could she resist such an offer?
Welcoming out newest member to the team soon!
Come and share in the love and history of all things old.
